She then took a staff therapist job at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania, and served as Assistant Director of the free clinic and as Training Director of a vibrant multi-disciplinary training program until the clinic folded in 2024.
Since the Cohen Clinic's closure, Dr. Adams has started a private practice focusing on serving those with history of trauma as couples and individual therapist. Expertise includes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), emotion regulation, and couples therapy including cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure, STAIR, mindfulness, anger management, and CBT for bipolar disorder. Dr. Adams has had the privilege of helping adult individuals and couples navigate complex trauma, combat trauma, sexual trauma, moral injury, anger, aggression, anxiety, mood instability, relationship difficulties, infidelity, suicidality, self-harm, and substance use disorder.
Dr. Adams' goal is to make herself obsolete by partnering with clients as they do the hard work, learn difficult skills, and ultimately reach a point of self-sufficiency and confidence so that therapy is no longer necessary.
When not working, Dr. Adams enjoys spending time with family including dog Casper, being in nature, gardening, and cooking.
