DESCRIPTION: This CE workshop will provide an overview of evidence-based strategies for working with patients with treatment resistant depression. The first half of the CE will focus on defining treatment resistant depression followed by an overview of psychiatric strategies in its management. The goal of this portion of the workshop is to become more comfortable collaborating with psychiatrists in multidisciplinary treatment planning and management and identify patients who may be appropriate for adjunctive referral to interventional psychiatric services. The second half of the CE will focus on evidence-based principles and clinical strategies when providing psychotherapy to TRD patients. Clinical strategies will emphasize cognitive behavioral conceptualization of managing dysregulation of negative and positive emotional states. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: This workshop is designed to help participants: 1. Recognize the psychiatric definition of Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD). 2. Identify psychiatric treatment options used in the management of TRD to aid in multi-disciplinary collaboration. 3. Describe evidence-based psychotherapeutic principles of change with TRD patients.
